Makar is the lone active player to be selected, Quick second in votes.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey's Cale Makar, Thomas Poeck and Jonathan Quick have all been named to the All-Hockey East 35th Anniversary Team, the league announced on Thursday. The team, comprised of the league's top 35 forwards and top 35 defenders all-time, including defensemen and goaltenders, was voted on by fans, the league's head coaches, officials and media members. Former Minutemen forward James Marcou (2007-10) and defenseman Justin Braun (2006-10) earned Honorable Mention nods.

Makar, the only active Hockey East player to make the list, has played in 70 career games thus far with the Minutemen and has 67 points on 20 goals and 47 assists and a +39 rating. In Hockey East action, the 2019 Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist has appeared in 44 career league games and compiled 12 goals and 31 assists for 43 points.

The Calgary, Alberta, native was a unanimous selection on the 2018-19 Hockey East All-Star First team after he totaled 30 points in 24 Hockey East games this year on eight goals and 21 assists, ranking second in points per-game (1.25) and first in plus-minus (+21). Overall, Makar leads the Minutemen in scoring this season with 46 points through 36 games and broke UMass' single-season records for points by a defenseman and assists by a defenseman.

He is currently tied for third in program history for single-season assists, as well, with 31, and is top-10 for single-season points. Hockey East's current overall points leader is sixth in the nation in points per-game (1.28), fifth in assists per-game (0.86), second in defenseman scoring and tied for third in plus-minus (+30). As a freshman in 2017-18, Makar was a Hockey East Third-Team All-Star and an All-Rookie Team selection.

Quick finished as the second-highest vote-getter behind Maine's Maine's Paul Kariya (719 points) with 695 points. He was named a second-team All-America selection after backstopping UMass to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2006-07 and first-ever NCAA victory. Quick shattered all UMass single-season goaltending records that year as he allowed two or fewer goals in 23 of 37 games played with 17 30+ save performances. He logged three shutouts and was named a 2006-07 Hockey East second team All-Star. He finished his two seasons at UMass with a 2.40 career goals-against average over 54 games, 3,128 minutes of action, and a .926 save percentage with a record of 23-22-6. Since signing with the Los Angeles Kings in 2007, he has won two Stanley Cups (2012 and 2014) and was selected as the 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as MVP of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The three-time NHL All-Star is in his 12th season with the Kings and holds virtually every franchise goaltending record including career victories. The 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist also surpassed the NHL record for most career shutouts by a U.S.-born netminder.

Poeck, a 2014 UMass Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, is regarded as one of the most highly accomplished players in program history. The native of Klagenfurt, Austria, was the Minutemen's first-ever Hobey Baker finalist and an All-American selection in 2004. That same year he was named as the InsideCollegeHockey.com National Defenseman of the Year. Over his final two seasons, he led UMass to a 38-29-7 record and a pair of appearances in the Hockey East Championship Semifinals. In 2004, Poeck guided UMass to the Hockey East Championship game in what is considered one of the greatest title games in league history as the Minutemen fought second-ranked Maine through three overtime periods before falling 2-1. That year he became the Minutemen's first-ever Hockey East First Team All-Conference selection after being named to the second team in 2003.

The converted forward was the seventh player in program history to eclipse the 100-point barrier finishing his career with 102 points on 44 goals and 58 assists in 130 games. As a senior, he had a career-best 41 points with 16 goals and 25 assists. Poeck also played for the Austrian National Team making Olympic appearances in 2002 (while a sophomore at UMass) and again in 2014.

Professionally, Poeck signed a free agent contract with the New York Rangers after the 2004 season ended and scored his first NHL goal that same day. All told, he spent 11 years playing hockey professionally between the NHL, the AHL and in Europe.
