December 16, 2019 | Hockey

The duo was honored following the Minutemen’s 4-0 shutout at Brown last week.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts junior forward Oliver Chau and sophomore goaltender Filip Lindberg have been selected as Hockey East Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week following the Minutemen's 4-0 win at Brown last Tuesday. It marks the fifth and sixth weekly accolades of the season collected by six different Minutemen.

Chau scored twice in the second period to break a scoreless deadlock on the road at Brown on December 10 for his third career multi-goal game. The tallies marked the third and fourth of the season for the Oakville, Ontario native who now has six points (3g, 3a) in his last four games for a four-game point streak and nine points (4g, 5a) in his last nine contests. Chau ends the semester third on the team in points with four goals and 10 assists and is +11 through 17 games.

Lindberg turned aside all 27 shots he faced against the Bears to collect his second shutout of the season and fifth of his career, tying him with teammate Matt Murray for the program's career shutout record. On the year, Lindberg holds a 1.76 goals against average and a .926 save percentage over 10 games and 544 minutes between the pipes.

UMass will be back in action on December 29 when the squad will face Rensselaer in Troy, New York at 5 p.m.
