UMass Flies Past CCSU, 89-43, To Move To 4-0 For First Time Since 2015

It marks the first time since 1995 that the Minutemen won by 40+ points
AMHERST, Mass. – The UMass men's basketball team shot 52.5% from the floor and held CCSU (0-4) to 16 made field goals and 33% shooting to blow by the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon at the Mullins Center, 89-43, in the opening game of the Air Force Reserve Tip Off Tournament.
The victory, UMass' first 40+ point win since Jan. 24, 1995, moves the Minutemen to 4-0 for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Ten of Massachusetts' 11 players who saw the floor found the scoresheet, led by Keon Clergeot's season-high 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, while Sean East II, the NCAA freshman leader in assist-turnover ratio, added 15 and a game-high six assists. Samba Diallo also reached double figures for the third time in four games with 13 points and six boards, while Djery Baptiste contributed 12 rebounds, six points and three blocks off the bench.
The Massachusetts defense forced CCSU into 24 turnover and just 48 points, marking the first time since Dec. 8, 2016 that UMass held an opponent to fewer than 50 points in a game. It's also the first time since Dec. of 2016 that the Minutemen recorded at least 10 steals in consecutive games.
The Minutemen used a 9-2 run to start the first half and a 9-0 run to end it to take control of the game early thanks to 48% shooting to take a 21-point lead into the locker room 39-18, marking the first time since Dec. 22, 2017 vs. Maine that UMass held an opponent under 20 points in a half.
Clergeot led the way with 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line, along with nine from Diallo and six from East II along with three steals. CCSU, meanwhile, got 10 from Greg Outlaw in the opening 20 minutes, but turned the ball over 15 times on eight Minuteman steals and was held scoreless for the final 4:20 of the half. Outlaw would finish the game with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals to pace CCSU.
UMass then piled it on in the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Blue Devils 50-25 with runs of 9-0, 13-3 and 17-5 with contributions across the board, while the defense held CCSU to an 8-of-26 performance in the half.
UMass continues the Air Force Reserve Tip Off Tournament, presented by Citi, on Wednesday night when the Minutemen host Rider at 7 p.m. on NESN and ESPN+.
