Minutewomen Face Boston College During Bulldog Invitational Day One

Crawford, Bocchi win in single and doubles over Eagles
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - University of Massachusetts tennis took six singles matches and one doubles contest during the opening day of the Bulldog Invitational on Friday against a familiar foe in Boston College. The Minutewomen are back on the courts Saturday against the tournament hosts, Yale.
Boston College took two of the three doubles matches; however, Massachusetts bounced back during singles play with wins at No. 1, No. 3-5 and No. 7-8.
Ruth Crawford and Martina Bocchi provided the lone doubles match victory over Laura Lopez and Marion Conklin, 6-4, and each posted victories during singles play as well. Crawford took to the No. 3 courts against Lopez with a tiebreaker triumph 6-4, 5-7 (10-7) while Bocchi stood in at No. 4 and earned a 3-6, 6-3 (10-3) comeback over Loren Haukova.
After two match victories in as many played at No. 1 during the opening weekend of the season, Janja Kovacevic returned to the No. 1 spot against Boston College with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Natasha Irani. Anna Napadiy continued her play at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Reagan Posorske while the Minutewomen added wins at No. 7 and No. 8 from Jasmin Tripathy and Ashley Avery, respectively.
Tripathy and Avery individually faced off with Micayla Casella, who did not compete in doubles, as Boston College was only able to field seven eligible competitors. After she dropped the opening set, Tripathy won in comeback fashion 1-6, 6-0 (10-4). Avery followed with an 8-2 victory during a one-set match.
