Baptiste To Join Men’s Hoops In December

The 6-10 center will transfer in from Vanderbilt in December with 1.5 years of eligibility left.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team will welcome in transfer big man Djery Baptiste to the roster as a graduate student in December. Baptiste (Gonaives, Haiti) will join the Minutemen with one-and-a-half years of eligibility left after three years at Vanderbilt, where he appeared in 64 games during the last two seasons after redshirting his freshman season.
"We are extremely excited about adding Djery to our program," said UMass head coach Matt McCall. "Not only will he add physicality, athleticism and toughness in our front court, but he brings a ton of experience and leadership qualities to help our team."
The 6-foot-10-inch center posted a career-high 13 points and added eight rebounds in a three-point win over UNC Asheville early in the 2017-18 season before securing a new career-high nine rebounds against Kansas State just over two weeks later. Baptiste also reached double figures scoring on the road at South Carolina in conference play and added three steals.
Coming out of Prestonwood Christian in Texas as a prep athlete, Baptiste was ranked as the No. 8 player in the state of Texas according to ESPN.
