Yrazusta, Kovacevic win singles matches over the Wildcats
DAVIDSON, N.C. - University of Massachusetts tennis faltered in its Friday afternoon match at Davidson as the Wildcats pulled away for a 5-2 win over the Minutewomen. With the loss, UMass falls to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 action while Davidson improves to 11-2 and 3-0.
The Wildcats earned the doubles point with their 6-4 and 6-3 margins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, respectively. In them, Anna Catherine Feaster and Megan Scholvinck out-performed Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno in the No. 2 spot while Samantha Armas and Alyssa Hahn bested Ruth Crawford and Ashley Avery. The Minutwewomen did collect the win at No. 3 doubles as Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi fought by Lindsay Song and Alexandra Abele, 6-2.
Yrazusta won in thrilling fashion at No. 2 singles as she dropped the first set before she rallied in the second set and claimed the tie-breaker for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 triumph over Scholvinck. Additionally, Kovacevic capped off her perfect afternoon at No. 3 singles as the Belgrade, Serbia, native notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Abele.
Davidson claimed the team victory with its wins at No. 1 and No. 4-6 singles. Feaster, a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection, earned a 6-0, 6-4 match margin over Crawford at No. 1 while Gabrielle Centenari, Song and Ava Todd secured positive outcomes for the Wildcats at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles over Moreno, Anna Napadiy and Bocchi, respectively.
