UMASS MEN'S BASKETBALL - FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON PREVIEW
• Coming off an eight-day break for exams, the UMass basketball team hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in a Friday matinee for on more game before another eight day break for the Christmas holiday.
• The game, the second of a doubleheader with the women's team on Friday afternoon, will be streamed live digitally through ESPN+ (subscription) which is available mobile, desktop and OTT devices such as Apple TV and Roku.
• On the radio airwaves, the game will be broadcast on the UMass Sports Network anchored by flagship station 105.5 FM WEEI and online via the TuneIn App. New Voice of the Minutemen Jay Burnham will be joined courtside by Tim Collins.
• The game marks the first time UMass and Fairleigh Dickinson have met on the hardwood. The Knights enter the match-up with a 5-5 record after falling to Saint Peter's on Wednesday night. FDU and UMass have two common opponents with the Knights falling at both Providence and Holy Cross earlier this season. A familiar name will be in the FDU starting line-up as Mike Holloway, Jr., the younger brother of UMass' Rashaan Holloway, is the Knights' fourth leading scorer after posting all-conference and all-district honors last year.
• UMass is led again this season by Luwane Pipkins who is the top returning scorer in the Atlantic 10 after notching 21.2 points per game last year. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason First Team after a breakout sophomore campaign. He is one of just six players in program history to average over 21 points a game in a single-season joining the likes of Julius Erving and Marcus Camby. He also became the 51st player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points for his career.
• With 1,232 career points, Pipkins now ranks 24th on the all-time scoring list at UMass after moving past Donta Bright (25th, 1993-96, 1,229 pts) and Ray Ellerbrook (26th, 1967-70, 1,224 pts). If Pipkins maintains his current scoring average, he could finish among UMass' top-10 all-time scorers as a junior. He currently trails Al Skinner (23rd, 1971-74, 1,235 pts) and Donte Clark (22nd, 2014-17, 1,238 pts). The Chicago native needs 45 points to crack the all-time top-20 scorers in program history.
• Through 11 games played, UMass has the best scoring average (79.4 pts) in the Atlantic 10 and ranks third in field goal percentage (47.0). Defensively, UMass ranks 12th in the league giving up 73.7 points per night.
• Individually, Rashaan Holloway ranks second in the A-10 for field goal percentage (70.3) while ranking 11th in rebounds per game (6.4).  Luwane Pipkins leads the league in assists per game (6.1) and ranks second among all league leaders in points per game (19.7).
• On the season, four Minutemen are averaging double figures led by Pipkins' 19.7 points per night. Jonathan Laurent ranks second with an 11.3 point per game average, while Curtis Cobb is third (10.7 points). Carl Pierre rounds out the top scorers with a 10.5 point average, while Holloway is just shy of the mark averaging 9.0 points per night.
• UMass added some more depth to its front court during the Holy Cross game as Randall West suited up. The quarterback for the UMass football team is officially full-time for the basketball team with the conclusion of the gridiron season. On top of the addition of West, the Minutemen will also add Vanderbilt graduate transfer Djery Baptiste starting Dec. 22 with his first game eligibility set for the Georgia contest following the Christmas break. Baptise is immediately eligible to play upon his arrival and the 6-foot-10 center will have three semesters with the Minutemen.
