UMASS MEN'S BASKETBALL - TEMPLE PREVIEW

• The Minutemen remain on the road after rallying back to win from down 20 points at Providence on Friday in the Dunkin' Donuts Center. UMass trailed by 20 points with seconds left in the first half before storming back in the second half to go up by a point with 2:25 remaining for the first UMass lead since the 14:07 mark in the first.

• The game will be streamed live digitally through ESPN3 with Dave Leno on the play-by-play call along with Rob Kennedy which is available mobile, desktop and OTT devices such as Apple TV and Roku.

• On the radio airwaves, the game will be broadcast on the UMass Sports Network anchored by flagship station 105.5 FM WEEI and online via the TuneIn App. New Voice of the Minutemen Jay Burnham will be joined courtside by Adam Frenier.

• The game marks the 68th all-time matchup between the two former Atlantic 10 foes, dating back to the most recent match-up on Nov. 17, 2017. The Minutemen took a 70-67 win in the Mullins Center in the first game between the two programs where they weren't league rivals. The final A-10 matchup came in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament where the Minutemen advanced to the quarterfinals with a 79-74 win behind 28 points from Chaz Williams. Wednesday's match-up will mark the first time since 2012 that the two teams have met in Philadelphia. Though the Owls had the upper hand in the series over the first 21 meetings, the series is split 23-23 over the last 46 games. Overall, Temple leads the series 44-23.

• UMass is led again this season by Luwane Pipkins who is the top returning scorer in the Atlantic 10 after notching 21.2 points per game last year. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason First Team after a breakout sophomore campaign. He is one of just six players in program history to average over 21 points a game in a single-season joining the likes of Julius Erving and Marcus Camby. He also became the 51st player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points for his career.

• With 1,220 career points, Pipkins now ranks 26th on the all-time scoring list at UMass after moving past Anthony Anderson (t27th, 2001-05, 1,211) and Jim Town (t27th, 1974-77, 1,211). If Pipkins maintains his current scoring average, he could finish among UMass' top-10 all-time scorers as a junior. He currently trails Ray Ellerbrook (25th, 1967-70, 1,224 pts). A nominal scoring night for the Chicago native could move him as high as No. 22 on the list as Donte Clark scored 1,238 points from 2014-17.

• Through 10 games played, UMass has the best scoring average (81.0 pts) in the Atlantic 10 and ranks third in field goal percentage (47.4). Defensively, UMass ranks 1wth in the league giving up 74.6 points per night.

• Individually, Rashaan Holloway leads the A-10 in field goal percentage (71.4) while ranking ninth in rebounds per game (7.0).  Luwane Pipkins leads the league in assists per game (6.4) and ranks second among all league leaders in points per game (20.5) while Jonathan Laurent ranks third in the A-10 with a 47.8% clip from range.

• On the season, five Minutemen are nearly averaging double figures led. by Pipkins' 20.5 points per night. Curtis Cobb is second at 11.4 points per game followed by Laurent's 11.2 and Carl Pierre's 10.7 while Holloway is averaging 9.9 per contest.

• UMass added some more depth to its front court during the Holy Cross game as Randall West suited up. The quarterback for the UMass football team is officially full-time for the basketball team with the conclusion of the gridiron season. On top of the addition of West, the Minutemen will also add Vanderbilt graduate transfer Djery Baptiste within the next few weeks when the fall semester is finalized in Nashville. Baptise will be immediately eligible to play upon his arrival and the 6-foot-10 center will have three semesters with the Minutemen.
