Tennis Triumphs Over Stony Brook During Brown Invitational Day Two

Minutewomen sweep doubles, take seven of eight singles matches
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Massachusetts tennis put forth a dominant effort over Stony Brook during the second day of action at the 2017 Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I., as the Minutewomen won all four doubles matches and seven of eight singles battles.
In doubles, Ruth Crawford and Janja Kovacevic took No. 1 over Maria Ribeiro and Ester Chikvashvili 6-4 while Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno claimed a 6-3 victory over Anne-Kathrin Hierl and Elizabeth Pam.
The No. 3 and No. 4 doubles teams each claimed 6-1 matches, with Anna Napadiy and Ashley Avery doing so at No. 3 and Martina Bocchi and Jovana Bogicevic winning at No. 4.
Yrazusta took No. 1 singles from Ester Chikvashvili 7-6 (2), 6-2 while Crawford tallied a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win at No. 2 over Ribeiro. Kovacevic was dominant at No. 3, with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Hierl.Â
 No. 4 singles went to Moreno with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Foo while Napadiy posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Bocchi met Pam in No. 6 singles and continued Massachusetts' dominance on the day with a 6-1, 6-2 final.
Stephanie Chikvashvili gave Stony Brook its only victory of the afternoon at No. 7 singles as she won in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 against Avery.
The Minutewomen added another victory in the No. 8 singles match, with Bogicevic the victor over Brown's Peri Sheinin.
Massachusetts finishes out the 2017 Brown Invitational with competition on Sun., Sept. 23.
