Tennis Bounces Back for 6-1 Win Over Army

Minutewomen provide head coach Judy Dixon win in final home indoor match of career.
AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a hard-fought loss to Boston College on Saturday, the UMass tennis team bounced back for a 6-1 win over Army on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center. The victory marked the final home indoor match of head coach Judy Dixon who is retiring following the season.
The win improves the Minutewomen to 5-3 on the year as they beging to prep for eight straight road matches beginning next Saturday, Feb. 25 at Yale. UMass will host one final home match on April 23 against Fordham which will be played outdoors at the Mullins Tennis Courts.
Sunday's match-up with the Black Knights once again saw the Minutewomen jump out to an early 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point. Just as they did against Boston College, UMass swept all three matches to start the day.
In singles play, Ana Yrazusta earned the first win of the day taking her No. 3 match in two sets (6-1, 6-1). Janja Kovacevic followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles putting the Minutewomen up 3-0.
The match win was sealed when Ruth Crawford secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Brittany Collens and Laura Moreno each won their No. 5 and No. 6 matches respectively to round out the points for the Minutewomen.
