McCall Era Gets Underway Friday Against UMass Lowell

Minutemen open 2017-18 season against Commonwealth foe at the Mullins Center.
AMHERST, Mass. - The Matt McCall era officially gets underway this Friday, Nov. 10, as the UMass men's basketball team hosts in-state foe UMass Lowell at the Mullins Center. Tip-off is set for 7 PM as the night cap of a doubleheader with the women's team which opens its season against the University of Maine-Fort Kent starting at 4:30 PM.
The game will be streamed live via the Atlantic 10 Digital Network (web and mobile) and carried on the airwaves on 105.5 FM WEEI (Western Mass) and 830 WCRN (Worcester) with Josh Maurer and Tim Collins calling the action. Fans can also listen on mobile devices using the Tune-In app.
The Minutemen are 5-2 all-time against the River Hawks after opening the 2016-17 season with a 90-76 win at the Mullins Center. Rashaan Holloway had a game-high 21 points while Luwane Pipkins scored 14 points while also tying a program record with eight steals in his first collegiate game.
Last weekend, UMass picked up an exhibition win over Springfield College, 82-60, with all five starters scoring in double figures. C.J. Anderson led all scorers with 17 points, while Chris Baldwin posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.Â
As a head coach, McCall is 2-0 in season openers after leading Chattanooga to a 92-90 overtime win at Georgia in 2015-16 and an 82-69 win at Tennessee to start 2016-17.

Additionally, current and former military personnel may receive two free tickets for Friday's doubleheader as part of UMass' Military Appreciation promotion in honor of Veteran's Day. The tickets can be picked up on game day at the Box Office with a valid military or veteran ID. Additional tickets for active and veteran military members can be purchase at the UMass group rate of $11 each.
