Leidel, Wyeth Named Student-Athletes of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics has selected Hailey Leidel and Oliver Wyeth as its Student-Athletes of the Week for Jan. 9-15.

Leidel, a freshman from Brownstown, Michigan, led women's basketball to a pair of victories this week with a road win at Davidson and a home win, on national television, against Duquesne. She hit the game-winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer against the Wildcats, highlighting a week where she averaged 21 points, 5.5 rebounds and three steals. In the road win at Davidson, Leidel scored 20 points, thanks to a 5-of-11 effort performance from beyond the arc. Her game-winner marked the second time this season she has beaten the buzzer for the victory. In the win over Duquesne, she scored 22 points with eight rebounds and five steals. Overall, she was 9-of-20 from the three-pointer line and 11-of-12 at the free throw line in the two games.

Wyeth, a junior from Wellington, New Zealand, won the 200 back (1:47.94) and the 500 free (4:35.10) to help the men's swim team to a 185-104 win over Bryant on Saturday afternoon at home. His time in the 500 free was his best of the season, while his performance in the 200 back was his best of the year and the third best of his career.
