Rivalry Renewed as Men's Soccer Heads to Boston University
September 09, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Minutemen and Terriers set for match under the lights on Saturday in Boston.
AMHERST, Massachusetts - One of the longtime New England rivalries is renewed once again as the UMass men's soccer team heads to Boston University on Saturday night. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at Nickerson Field and will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
UMass (0-3-1) is coming off a tough loss against New Hampshire on Tuesday. The match saw the Minutemen pitch a first half shutout for the third time this season before a tough luck second half resulted in the loss. UMass took a 1-0 lead just moments into the second half, but UNH responded 35 seconds later to equalize.
Boston University has played just one match so far this season with a 3-2 loss against Boston College last Sunday. After the Eagles took a 3-1 lead, the Terriers managed to pull within a goal in the 88th minute but could not find the game-tying score after that.
Felix De Bona and Anthony Viteri each scored goals for BU, while keeper Matt Gilbert made five saves.
The Minutemen have received goals this season from Samuel Asamoah and Alex DeSantis. Jorge Becerra has started all four matches in goal with a 2.37 goals-against-average and a 0.722 save percentage while already faceing 85 shots.
Following the Boston University game, UMass will return home to host Albany on Tuesday, Sept. 13 (4 p.m.) and Brown next Saturday, Sept. 17 (4 p.m.) at Rudd Field.
