Yale Takes 5-2 Win Over Tennis On Friday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale won the doubles point and four of six singles matches to defeat the UMass tennis team 5-2 on Friday afternoon. Ruth Crawford won for the Minutewomen at No. 2 singles, while Anna Woosley won at No. 4 singles.
The Minutewomen (5-5) will return to action on Sunday when they head to No. 41 Dartmouth for a noon match.
Friday began with the Bulldogs (2-5) winning all three doubles matches, though both the No. 1 and No. 3 matches were decided by extra games. Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito fell at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, while Arielle Griffin and Laura Moreno fell by the same score at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play saw Yale win early at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the team win. Crawford won at No 2 singles (6-3, 6-3), while Woosley won at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-2). Yrazusta fell in a tough battle at No. 1 singles that was evenly matched. She lost the first set 7-6 before winning the second set 6-4 to force a tie-breaker. In the third set, Yale won 10-8.
