MASSACHUSETTS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Marquis Young ran for 163 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries at Old Dominion, an average of 7.4 yards per attempt. It is his most yards in a single game during the 2016 season. He was not dropped in the backfield for a loss on any of his 22 carries against Old Dominion.

  • Dan Jonah recorded a career-long 61-yard reception in the second quarter. During the play, Jonah was hit by an ODU defensive player, flipped over his defender and landed on his feet, which allowed him to continue to run to the ODU 12 yard line.

  • Andy Isabella caught a touchdown pass from Andrew Ford in the third quarter, his team-leading fourth of the season. He has TDs in back-to-back games, including his two-score performance versus Tulane.

  • Steve Casali led both sides with 11 tackles, his second consecutive with 10 or more stops (15 vs. Tulane) and third 10+ takedown performance of the season.

  • Isaiah Rodgers blocked an Old Dominion extra point attempt, which Steve Casali scooped up and returned for a defensive XP worth two points. It was the first defensive extra point for the Minutemen since Ke'Mon Bailey completed the rare feat with an interception return at Maine on Oct. 31, 2009.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Old Dominion scored 10 points in the first quarter and led 19-9 at halftime as Brad Davis connected on two ODU field goals, Travis Fulgham pulled in an eight-yard touchdown and Jeremy Cox ran for a 16-yard score.

  • Massachusetts put points on the board via a 12-yard Marquis Young rushing play and a two-point defensive PAT return by Steve Casali.

  • Dan Jonah set up the first scoring drive for UMass with an acrobatic 61-yard catch that included Jonah flipping over a would-be tackler as he continued to the Old Dominion 12 yard line one play prior to Young's rushing score.

  • Brad Davis hit back-to-back field goals sandwiched around the halftime break. He hit his second of the game (38 yards) with 10 seconds to go in the second. He added a 35-yarder with 8:22 to go in the third, which made it a 22-9 in favor of Old Dominion.

  • Andrew Ford found Andy Isabella for Isabella's team-leading fourth touchdown of the year with 5:38 to go in the third. It capped a seven-play, 73-yard drive that only needed two minutes, 39 seconds to find the endzone.

  • Old Dominion denied the comeback with two more scoring drives spanning the end of the third frame and beginning for the fourth quarter, both of which covering 18 yards. Ray Lawry scored with 32 seconds to go in the second quarter while Jeremy Cox scooted in with 8:39 to go in the game.
