September 30, 2015 | Tennis
AMHERST, Mass. - Following a strong showing at the Brown Invitational last weekend, the UMass women's tennis team returns to the courts this Thursday afternoon (2 PM) hosting UConn at the Mullins Center Courts. Admission to the match is free with parking available behind the Mullins Center.
For the Huskies, this will be their fourth competition of the fall season, but first dual match. UConn played a split weekend on Sept. 18-20 at the Harvard Invitational and the Quinnipiac Invitational, while last weekend the Huskies competed at the West Point Invitational.
For UMass, the Minutewomen picked up where 2014-15 left off in terms of strong doubles play at the Brown Invitational. Carol Benito and Ana Yrazusta posted a 3-1 mark, while Arielle Griffin and Laura Moreno split a pair of matches.
In singles action, freshman Ruth Crawford was 2-1 at Brown winning the back draw championship of her flight.
Last season , UMass defeated UConn 5-2 in Storrs, Conn. After UMass clinched the doubles point, depth at singles helped the Minutewomen who won matches 3-through-6.
Following Thursday's action, UMass will have two weeks off before hosting Providence on Oct. 15 back at the Mullins Courts (2:30 PM).
