UMass Tennis Announces 2015-16 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history, the UMass women's tennis team has announced its schedule for the 2015-16 campaign. The Minutewomen will look to build upon last year's Atlantic 10 Runner-Up finish with a veteran line-up that returns all but one of its starting six.
The fall portion of the schedule will once again be heavy on tournament play as UMass will start the year at the Brown Invitational (Sept. 25-27) before also taking part in the ITA Northeast Regionals (Oct. 22-26) and the Dartmouth Big Green Invitational (Nov. 6-8).
The Minutewomen will host a pair of dual matches at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts as Connecticut (Oct. 1) and Providence (Oct. 15) visit.
Following the winter break, the season will resume on Jan. 29 with a dual match at Brown followed up by a match at Boston College (Jan. 31).
A pair of home matches at the Bay Road Tennis Club follow with UMass hosting Long Island University and St. John's on Feb. 6 and Feb. 7, respectively.
The Minutewomen then take to the road for six matches before returning to Bay Road on March 11 to host South Alabama.
Once again, UMass will head to Charleston, S.C., during Spring Break to face host College of Charleston (March 15), Towson (March 17) and Charleston Southern (March 18).
UMass closes out the regular-season with three home matches and three road matches after during the first half of April. The Minutewomen will host Fairleigh Dickinson (April 2) and Bryant (April 9) at Bay Road before closing out the home slate on April 14 against rival Rhode Island at the Mullins Center Courts.
The Atlantic 10 Championships are slated for April 21-24 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Last season, the Minutewomen fell in narrow fashion to VCU in the league title match. Overall, UMass was 17-5 marking the second-most wins for a single-season in program history. The Minutewomen reached the Atlantic 10 title match for the second time in the previous four seasons.
Four players from UMass' line-up earned All-Atlantic 10 accolades paced by rising sophomore Ana Yrazusta who was named to the all-conference first team and was the A-10 Rookie of the Year. She and doubles partner Carol Benito finished last season ranked as the No. 4 doubles pair in the final ITA New England Regional Rankings.
All told, UMass enters the 2015-16 campaign with five of its top six singles players from last season following the graduation of Chanel Glasper who finished her career as the all-time program leader in singles victories (77).
