Deveau Earns Third In Heptathlon With Strong Second Day

OTTAWA, Ontario - University of Massachusetts track and field rising sophomore Bridget Deveau earned bronze in the heptathlon event at the Canadian Combined Events Championship with a strong Sunday showing over her final three events. Deveau finished her two days of competition at Terry Fox Athletic Facility in Ottawa, Ontario, with 4,800 points.

After Deveau took fourth (562 points) in the long jump with a mark of 16'5.25" on her second attempt, she closed out the day with a pair of second place finishes among the seven-participant field. Deveau sent her final javelin throw 126'10" for 642 points and capped the afternoon with 825 points in the 800m (2:19.92).

Deveau began Sunday in fourth place following Saturday's day one events. The Halifax, Nova Scotia, native collected 769 points in the 100m hurdles (15.56), 736 points in the high jump (5'3"), 693 points in the 200m (27.23) and 573 points in the shot put (35'0.25") on June 20.

Deveau's successful weekend at the Canadian Combined Events Championship followed a stellar rookie year in 2015 for the then-freshman. She took home bronze in the heptathlon at the ECAC Outdoor Championships with 4651 points (May 15) and followed up ECACs with second place in the event at the Atlantic 10 Championships (May 20) via a personal record score of 4,826 points.
