MANCHESTER, N.H. - UMass hockey senior goaltender Steve Mastalerz has inked an Amateur Try Out agreement (ATO) with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, the organization announced on Tuesday. Mastalerz, who completed his four-year career with the Minutemen in 2014-15 is the 15th UMass player to sign his first professional contract in the past three years.

"I couldn't be happier to be able to join Manchester," said Mastalerz. "It's a great opportunity to further develop my game at the next level. I'm thankful for my time here at UMass and thank everyone from UMass hockey who has helped me along the way."

In four years at UMass, Mastalerz appeared in 77 career games for a total of 4217 minutes, 45 seconds, and logged a 3.12 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage. The North Andover, Mass., native posted 20 wins and four shutouts, which ranks fourth in program history, while his career saves total (1,953) is fifth all-time in the UMass record book.

Mastalerz, a five-time Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week in his career, set UMass' Division I single game saves record, sixth-most in NCAA history, with 75 stops in the Minutemen's five overtime victory at Notre Dame this past March 6, in the Hockey East Tournament.

The Monarchs open the Calder Cup Playoffs against Portland at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. Mastalerz will be available for that contest and will be wearing number 1.
