Widmar Inks NLI With Massachusetts Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. - Joseph Widmar, a 6-0, 211-pound right shot forward from Northbrook, Ill., has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Massachusetts hockey program, Head Coach John Micheletto announced on Thursday. Widmar joins Kurt Keats and Austin Plevy as the third member of the Minutemen's Class of 2019.

"He is a strong, well-conditioned player," said Micheletto. "Joe can play both a skill game as well as a power game and we're looking forward to having him in a Minutemen uniform."

This season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), Widmar appeared in all 60 of the squad's games and posted 41 points on 19 goals and 22 assists to rank second on the team in scoring. In total in his USHL career, he saw action in 114 contests, logging 55 points (24g, 31a), also playing for the Chicago Steel and Indiana Ice in 2012-13.

In 2013-14 as a member of the Connecticut Oilers of the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Widmar registered 49 points in 40 games on 16 goals and 33 assists an was named an EHL Second Team All Star. He was invited to participate in USA Select Festivals on two occasions.
