AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts hockey program has signed Ivan Chukarov, a 6-3, 200-pound left shot defenseman from Des Plaines, Ill., Head Coach John Micheletto announced on Thursday. Chukarov is the fourth member of the Minutemen's freshman class for 2015-16, joining fellow Illinois native Joseph Widmar as well as Austin Plevy and Kurt Keats.
"A mobile, puck-moving defenseman that can play both sides of the puck, Ivan will definitely improve our D-corps heading into the 2015-16 season."
This past season, his second with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), Chukarov appeared in 55 games, totaling 43 points on 12 goals and 31 assists and was +38. He ranked second in the NAHL for plus/minus and was fourth among defensemen in points, goals and assists.
In December 2014, Chukarov was named the NAHL Defenseman of the Month after helping the Wilderness to a 5-0-2 record for the month with a team-best nine points and a +13 rating over the seven games. He was selected to participate in the North American Hockey League Top Prospects Tournament in 2015, as well.
Over two seasons with the Wildnerness, Chukarov played in 106 career games with 17 goals and 43 assists for 60 points and a +43 rating.
