Inside the Glass With Troy Power
March 04, 2015 | Hockey
This past week we played our last game of the regular season against the UConn Huskies. Being ahead on games, we finished the last weekend of the season with only a Friday night game, oppose to the usual two game weekends we are all accustomed to. Unfortunately we did not finish the way we wanted to and lost to the Huskies, 4-0. With playoffs around the corner, we have no time to dwell on what could have been. Instead, we need to but our best foot forward and be as prepared as we can be to make a run and extend our season.
As I previously stated, we had Saturday night off. I would be lying if I said I wasn't checking scores around the league or watching live games on TV to see where we would be traveling the following week. When all was said and done we learned that we would be traveling to Notre Dame to play against the Fighting Irish. Due to the lengthy travel to South Bend, teams around the league either travel to play two Hockey East games at Notre Dame, or the Irish fly in to compete against teams in their respective buildings for the two game matchups. Earlier this season, they arrived at the Mullins Center for two games, making the Compton Ice Arena the only rink we haven't traveled to this season.
Although it is a little farther travel than we might have expected, the goal is still the same. While many onlookers might have written us off along time ago, we as a team believe in what we have inside the locker room and, to be honest, that's the only opinion that matters. Belief in my eyes is what is going to ultimately take us into the next round or end our season in South Bend. Obviously there are many factors that go into a playoff series and we know that we need to be at the top of our game in order to advance, but I believe we are up for the challenge. There have been many games this year that we have proven we can play with the best teams in college hockey when we all buy in and compete as a unit.
These opportunities are what you dream about your whole life. When you're training in the summer or growing up as a kid you don't think about scoring the fifth goal in a 5-1 victory, you think about burying the overtime winner than pushes your team to the next round. I can't say that we will go into overtime, but I can say there will be countless big time moments to step up and make a play for the 25+ guys you've gone to war with the entire season. Playoff hockey is a whole different level of competition that demands and brings out the very best that you have and I couldn't be more excited to lay it on the line with my teammates. The fun starts on Friday night in South Bend, Indiana at 7:35 p.m. Thank you for all of the support throughout the regular season and the continued support heading into playoffs! Go UMass!
