March 11, 2015 | Hockey
STOCKTON, Calif. - Defenseman Mike Busillo, who recently completed his collegiate career with the UMass hockey program, has signed a contract to play for the Stockton Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Busillo, a native of Wallingford, Conn., played in 75 career games with the Minutemen over the past four seasons and totaled seven career points on one goal and six assists. His lone career tally came on Oct. 31, 2014, at Maine in his final campaign with the Maroon & White.
As a senior, Busillo blocked a career high 35 shots and finished with 93 over four seasons. As a sophomore in 2012-13, he was +5 in 20 games played and had a career best three helpers as a junior in 2013-14.
Busillo will join former UMass teammates Michael Pereira and Adam Phillips on the Thunder roster and becomes the fourth former Minuteman to play for Stockton this year as Colin Shea also appeared in one game earlier this season.
