Eagles Sweep Minutewomen 4-0

DEDHAM, Mass. - The UMass tennis team fell 0-4 to #60 Boston College on Friday, February 6 at the Dedham Health and Fitness Complex. Boston College swept UMass in all three doubles matches before taking three of three singles contests. The Eagles improve to 2-3 while UMass falls to 0-2 for the spring season.
The Eagles opened the match sweeping the Minutewomen in doubles play; Lexi Borr and Jessica Wacnik took No. 1 singles over Ana Yrazusta Acosta and Carol Benito to a score of 6-2, while Asiya Dair and Jennifer Ren bested Chanel Glasper and Arielle Griffin in the No. 2 spot, 6-3. Emily Safron and Katya Vasilyev rounded out the doubles action with a 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles over Brittany Collens and Isabel Balsavage.
Boston College went on to dominate UMass in singles action. Wacnik battled Acosta in No. 1 singles and ultimately triumphed with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Borr then opened the floodgates for the Eagles with a 6-3, 6-3 No. 2 win over Griffin. Feeding off of the momentum, Dair closed out the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-0 finish in the No. 4 spot against Glasper. Boston College secured the match with the three singles wins and the No. 3 and 5 singles contests of Vasilyev and Benito, and Safron and Collens went abandoned. The No. 6 match of Salonen and Balsavage was also never started.
The Minutewomen return to action this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. to take on Quinnipiac at the Mullins Center Courts.
