Tennis Secures First Spring Season Win

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team swept Quinnipiac 7-0 at home on Saturday, February 7 to secure its first dual match of the spring season. The Minutewomen improve to 2-2 overall and 1-2 for the spring season, while the Bobcats fall to 2-2 overall.
Ana Yrazusta Acosta and Carol Benito opened the match for UMass in the No. 1 singles spot, besting Quinnipiac's Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa 7-6. Arielle Griffin and Brittany Collens clinched the doubles point for the maroon and white with a 6-4 victory in No. 3 doubles. Anna Woosley and Chanel Glasper battled in the No. 2 spot, but ultimately fell 6-3 to Rachel Horton and Sydney Young.
The Minutewomen carried their momentum into singles play where they swept all six matches. Yrazusta continued her winning style into the No. 1 singles match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Sophia Dzulynsky. Griffin and Woosley also won their matches in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. The floodgates opened when Benito, Glasper and Collens secured wins in their respective matches. Benito added a 6-1, 6-2 No. 4 victory while Glasper battled Dassa in the No. 5 spot for a 6-0, 6-4 win. Collens closed out the match with a convincing 7-6, 6-4 victory over senior Ariana Launie.
The Minutewomen return to action next weekend for a pair of home matches on February 13 and 14 against Army and Marist at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m., respectively.
