Women's Track Claims Fourth At A-10 Championship

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Atlantic 10 Championship wrapped up Sunday with many individual triumphs for UMass women's track and field. The Minutewomen claimed fourth place with a combined team score of 85 points. VCU captured the title with 125 points followed by Richmond and George Mason tied for second.

The Minutewomen took home several medals on the final day of the competition. Senior Courtney Kromko was awarded Most Outstanding Field Performer for her phenomenal showing in jump events. Other highlights included Heather MacLean's blazing fast finish in the 800 meter run earning first place, Rachel Hilliard's bronze medal in the 1 mile run, Margaret Riseborough's personal record and third-place standing in shot put and Ashley Palmer earning bronze in triple jump close behind Kromko.

MacLean claimed her first indoor A-10 title in the 800m, racing 2 minutes, 14.39-seconds to first place. In the 1 mile run, Hilliard earned the bronze medal, finishing in 5 minutes, 0.27-seconds. Close behind, Carly Zinner took seventh with a quick time of 5 minutes, 5.49-seconds. Hilliard returned to the track later for the 3,000 meter run, crossing the line in eighth place at 9 minutes, 59.80-seconds.

The women's 4x800 meter relay team finished fifth out of 11 teams. Krista Webb, Courtney Neves, Zinner and MacLean ran a combined time of 9 minutes, 16.40-seconds.

In field events, Kromko and Ashley Palmer medaled in the triple jump. Kromko took silver, leaping 38 feet, 6.25-inches. Palmer landed close behind at 38 feet, 4.25-inches, good for bronze. The Minutemen had two top-eight finishes in high jump as well. Katie Osborne placed fourth, leaping 5 feet, 3-inches. Julia Witt finished eighth overall, clearing a height of 5 feet, 1-inch.

Riseborough earned a bronze medal and a new personal record in shot put as the sophomore threw 43 feet, 3.75-inches and placed third.

Next up for the Minutewomen comes the New England Championship. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27 and will span two days. First day of competition will kick off at 10:00 a.m. in Boston, Mass.
