Game Notes - UMass Returns Home For Doubleheader

• UMass returns home with a 5-game win streak and is tie for first place. The Minutemen will host Duquesne at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
• The UMass Sports Network will feature the "Voice of the Minutemen" Josh Maurer handling play-by-play duties, along with analysts Tim Collins and Jason Germain. The game can be heard live starting at 3:40 p.m. ET on 105.5 FM WEEI (Springfield), 1440 AM WVEI (Worcester), 1200 AM WXKS (Bloomberg Radio in Boston) and 95.9 FM WATD (Boston's South Shore). The broadcast is also available online through www.UMassAthletics.com and on smart phones & tablets through the TuneIn app.
• Streaming video will be available on the A-10 Digital Network.

TOP STORYLINES
• This is the 106th season of UMass Basketball. UMass has an all-time record of 1,244-1,089 (.532) in 2,333 games. UMass is 465-317 (.593) in conference games, including a 301-297 in Atlantic 10 play. The Minutemen have claimed 15 regular-season conference championships and five tournament titles.
• The Minutemen rank 108th nationally in scoring (70.1), 27th in FT made (394), 37th in FT attempted (558), 109th in FT pct. (70.6%), 122nd in steals (6.7) and 51st in blocks (4.7)
• UMass has won four-consecutive games for the first time this season. It’s the longest stretch since winning six-straight midway through last year.
• The Minutemen have scored at least 34 points in the first half 10 times this season and are 9-1 in those games.
• UMass is 9-3 when scoring at least 70 points. It is 9-1 when leading at half and 1-1 when tied at the break.
• The Minutemen have outrebounded their opponents in eight of the last nine games.
• Cady Lalanne became the 47th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points on Wednesday.
• Duquesne is 0-5 in A-10 road play and has lost by an average of 21.4 points to Dayton, Saint Louis, George Washington, Richmond and Davidson.
• The Dukes are averaging eight 3-pointers per game. Duquesne’s bench is averaged 27.7 points per game.
• UMass finished non-conference play with a strength of schedule between 7 and 11 among four different ratings formulas. The team enters the Duquesne game with a strength of schedule of 34 by ESPN.com and 31 by CBS Sports.com.
• UMass entered the year having won 70 games in the last 3 years (25, 21 & 24) and participated in 2 NITs (reaching Final Four in 2012) and 2014 NCAA tourney.
• The Minutemen return seven letterwinners, including starters Maxie Esho and Cady Lalanne, from last season that went 24-9 overall and 10-6 in Atlantic 10 play en route to it's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 16 years (1998). The team also returned to the national rankings for the first time since 1998- 99, climbing as high as No. 12 in late January.

SERIES HISTORY WITH DUQUESNE
• UMass leads the all-time series 37-25. That includes margins of 20-7 in Amherst & Springfield, 13-15 in Pittsburgh, and 4-3 in neutral sites. UMass has won two of the three overtime games in the series - all of which have been played in Pittsburgh.
• The series dates back to Jan 11, 1975, a 98-94 UMass victory in Springfield.
• The teams have met every season but one since 1975 (1993 when Duquesne was in the MCC).
• UMass has won eight of the last 12 in the series and 12 of the last 14 at home.
• LAST MEETING (Last season in Pittsburgh): Trey Davis scored 20 points and Chaz Williams became the career assist leader in school history in last season’s 78-74 win at the A.J. Palumbo Center. UMass used a 7-2 run over the final 2:30 to overtake the Dukes. Davis scored the final 10 points, including a 3-pointer with 3:13 left and the shot clock nearing zero that game UMass a 71-70 lead. Ovie Soko answered for Duquesne with a 16-foot jumper before Davis responded one more time. The sophomore from Dallas hit the last of his game-high four 3-pointers with 1:43 to play that gave UMass the lead for good, 74-72. Davis then made four free throws to close out the game. Williams had 17 points, six assists and four steals, while Raphiael Putney finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four blocks. He surpassed the 1,000-point plateau with a jumper in the lane in the first half, becoming the 46th player in program history to accomplish the feat. UMass shot 45 percent form the floor, made 10 3-pointers and was 14-of-18 from the free throw line. Duquesne got 20 points from Micah Mason who was 4-for-6 from outside.
• LAST GAME IN AMHERST (2 years ago): UMass outscored Duquesne 16-4 over the final seven minutes to collect a 79-66 win at the Mullins Center. The Dukes were just 1-of-10 during the run, which came after they had trimmed a 14-point Minutemen lead down to three. Chaz Williams scored 22 points and Terrell Vinson added 17. UMass shot 46.8 percent from the floor hitting 29-of-62 field goals. Cady Lalanne added 12 and 10 for a double-double, while Williams had nine assists. Along with Vinson’s 17 points, he had five assists, four rebounds, and a blocked shot.


ST. BONAVENTURE LEFTOVERS
• UMass moved into a 4-way tie for first place in the Atlantic 10 standings, joining Dayton, Rhode Island and VCU at 8-3.
• UMass improved to 41-23 all-time against St. Bonaventure. The teams split their home-and-home season series this year. UMass is now 16-14 at SBU and snapped a two-game losing streak at the Reilly Center.
• UMass improved to 5-5 in road games this season and 5-1 in Atlantic 10 road games. The Minutemen have won their last three league games away from home, doing so for the first time since 2008.
• UMass trailed by six points (39-33) with 14:42 left in the game. It was the largest second-half deficit overcome in a win this season. UMass had previously trailed Iona by five with 5:22 remaining. The largest deficit overcome this season was a 13-point hole against Boston College but that was with 10:54 left in the first half.
• UMass shot 46.3 percent in the game for its second-highest effort in 11 league games.
• UMass was 15-of-18 at the free throw line for an 83.3 pct. mark. That’s the second-highest this year and the fourth-consecutive game at 75 pct or better. UMass is 70-of-89 (.787) in its last four games.
• The Minutemen outrebounded the Bonnies 32-31, marking the eighth time in the last nine games this season that has happened. UMass is 9-4 this season (6-2 in A-10 play) when grabbing more boards than the opponents.
• UMass committed a season-high 20 turnovers. SBU turned it over 15 times. UMass held a 20-18 edge in points off turnovers.
• The Minutemen finished with 10 steals, their third-highest total of the season. They scored 14 points on ensuing possessions, including the final five points of the game.
• UMass improved to 9-1 when leading at the half.
• Junior PG Trey Davis led the Minutemen in scoring with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, to go along with four assists and one turnover. He has 33 assists and nine turnovers in the last eight games, a 3.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. He also made his only two free throws, extending his streak of consecutive makes to 22.

• Senior F Cady Lalanne finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks. He now has 1021 career points, moving past Tyrone Weeks and Raphiael Putney into 43rd all-time in school history. His 796 rebounds place him alone in 11th place.
