UMass Hockey In The Pros: 2014-15 Update #3

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey has 25 alumni currently playing professionally around the globe in nine different countries including three former Minutemen in the NHL, six in the AHL and seven in the ECHL. Here are a few highlights of recent performances by UMass hockey alumns:
Matt Irwin (San Jose Sharks - NHL)
Has played in 30 games so far this season, earning nine points in those 30 contests. Scored two goals in his season debut at Washington (10/14)... The following night he recorded an assist against the New York Islanders (10/16)... Recorded two assists vs Boston (12/04)... Scored his first goal of the New Year at Vancouver (2/5)... Averaging a time on ice of 20 minutes...Upcoming games: 2/12 (Thurs.) vs. Calgary; 2/14 (Sat.) at Washington; 2/16 (Mon.) vs. Tampa Bay.
Rocco Carzo (Ontario Reign - ECHL)
Has played in 46 games this season recording 14 goals and 13 assists in those contests... In the month of October he scored his first goal of the season at Alaska (10/19)... The following night he recorded another goal vs. Idaho (10/25)... In the month of November he recorded three goals and two assists, two of the goals, which came against Idaho (11/20), and another at Stockton (11/5)...In the New Year thus far he has four goals and seven assists ... Casey Wellman (Hershey Bears - AHL)
Has appeared in 47 games this season recording 14 goals and 17 assists in those contests... Scored goals in four consecutive games... His first two goals of the season at Springfield (10/18)... The following night he scored a goal against former Minuteman Conor Allen's Hartford Wolf Pack (10/19)... Recorded a goal and an assist at Lehigh (10/24) and another goal the following night vs. former Minuteman Conor Sheary's Scranton Penguins (10/25)... Recorded a goal and two assists at Manchester (10/31)... In the New Year thus far he has recorded five goals, scoring in three consecutive contests and nine assists... Upcoming games: 2/13 (Fri.) at Albany; 2/14 (Sat.) vs. Portland (against former Minuteman Joel Haney); 2/15 (Sun.) at Bridgeport.
Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings - NHL)
Has appeared in 45 games this season, winning 19 of those contests... Now holds the Kings franchise record for shutouts, which he broke vs. St. Louis (10/16)... Is currently 10th in the NHL in shutouts with three... and currently sits fourth in the league for goals against and eight for both shots against (1,213) and saves (1,103)... Upcoming games: 2/12 (Thurs.) vs. Calgary; 2/14 (Sat.) at Washington; 2/16 (Mon.) vs. Tampa Bay.
Justin Braun (San Jose Sharks - NHL)
Has appeared 47 games this season, recording 19 points in those contests... Recorded an assist in his season debut at Washington (10/14)... Recorded an assist at New Jersey (10/18) an assist at Boston (10/21) and an assist at Colorado (10/28)... Recorded his first goal of the season and added an assist at Calgary (12/6)... Recorded two assists vs. Toronto (1/15) and another two assists the following night vs. Calgary (1/17) Has averaged over 20 minutes of ice time per game and has a +9 rating through all 30 games thus far... Upcoming games: 2/13 (Fri.) at Arizona; 2/15 (Sun.) vs. Tampa Bay.
Joel Hanley (Gwinnett Gladiators - ECHL/Portland Pirates - AHL)
Scored a goal in his season debut at Evansville (10/18)... also recording 4 shots on goal and an even rating... Has seen the remainder of his season thus far playing for Portland in the American Hockey League where he has played in 13 games and has recorded 3 points... Recorded his point of the season vs Lehigh Valley (11/8)... Recorded his first multi-point game of the season with two assists vs Manchester (12/5)... Currently sits with a +8 rating... Recorded his first career professional AHL goal at St. Johns (2/6) and on the New Year thus far has recorded a goal and four assists. Conor Allen (New York Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack - NHL/AHL)
Conor is back with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League where he has played 20 games and has 10 points in those contests... Recorded an assist in his season opener at Syracuse (10/12)... Recorded his first goal of the season at Worcester (10/21)... Recorded his first multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist at Albany (10/25)... Added another multi point performance with a goal and two assists vs Syracuse (11/19)... Upcoming games (AHL): 2/14 (Sat.) vs. Albany; 2/15 (Sun.) at Albany
Adam Phillips (Stockton Thunder - ECHL)
Has played in 44 games so far this season recording five goals and 13 assists in those contests... Scored his professional goal vs. Alaska (10/24) where he also added an assist that same game... Recorded two goals at Idaho (10/31) playing versus former teammate and Minuteman Colin Shea... In the month of November Phillips recorded five assists, two coming at Idaho (11/01)... two more assists at Stockton (11/22) and one assist at Stockton (11/26)... In the New Year thus far he has recorded one goal, which was at Colorado (1/6) and three assists. Upcoming games: 2/13 (Fri.) vs. Colorado; 2/14 (Sat.) vs. Colorado
Mike Marcou (Reading Royals - ECHL)
Has played in 46 games so far this season recording four goals and twenty three assists for 27 total points... Recorded two assists at Elmira (10/24)... Recorded his first goal of the season vs. Elmira (10/26)... In the month of November he had a goal and eight assists including a seven game point streak, where he recorded an assist in each of those seven contests, which started at Kalamazoo (11/14) and ended vs Elmira (11/26)... In the New Year thus far he has recorded one goal, which was vs. Elmira (1/19) and eight assists. Upcoming games: 2/13 (Fri.) at Wheeling; 2/14 (Sat.) at Elmira
