Six Named to Academic All-MAC Team

AMHERST, Mass. -- Six members of the University of Massachusetts football team were named to the 124-member 2015 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.

Senior Matt Sparks is one of nine three-time honorees named to the 2015 team. He will graduate in May with degree in civil engineering and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.8. He played 40 career games at center.

A two-time honoree, Joe Colton will graduate in May with a degree in public health and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.26. He played in 45 career games at defensive back and on special teams. In 2015, totaled 90 tackles (third on the team) and two interceptions.

A two-time honoree, quarterback Blake Frohnapfel will earn his master's in business and sport management in May. He holds a 3.67 cumulative GPA and was a 2015 finalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy.

A two-time honoree, junior Fabian Hoeller holds a cumulative GPA of 3.62 as a microbiology major. He has played in 36 career games on the offensive line.

A two-time honoree, junior Adam Richard holds a cumulative GPA of 3.42 as an economics major. He has played in 29 career games at linebacker and on special teams.

Sophomore Connor Lemieux earned his first career academic all-conference honor. He holds a cumulative GPA of 3.62 as a biology major. He played in 11 games in 2015 as a reserve wide receiver and on special teams

The Academic All-MAC Team consists of student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and participated in at least 50 percent of the contests.
