MacLean and Tavares Named A-10 Academic All-Conference

AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts juniors Paolo Tavares and Heather MacLean have been named to the Atlantic 10 Men and Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Teams, the conference office announced on Wednesday. It marks the second academic all-conference recognition for Tavares and MacLean's first of her career.
Tavares, a Biology major with a 3.858 GPA, finished 12th at the A-10 Championships with a time of 24:59.7. He helped the Minutemen to a second place team finish at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship and earned his first all-conference honor in cross country. A native of New Bedford, Mass., Tavares, was a top-five finisher for the Minutemen in each of the squad's six races thus far this year. He was previously named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for outdoor track & field in 2015 as well.
MacLean, who is a Psychology major with a 3.579 GPA, paced the Minutewomen at the A-10 Championship with a time of 17:20.7, taking second overall in a field of 129 competitors and helping the team tie for third. The Peabody, Mass., native finished first on the team in each of five races she competed in this season including a 14th overall finish at the New England Championships on Oct. 10. She is also a three-time A-10 Champion (one indoor, two outdoor) in the 800m.
