Renee Capps Leads UMass at CCSU Mini Meet

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Sophomore Renee Capps led the Minutewomen across the line for the first time in her collegiate career Friday at the CCSU Mini Meet. The Oct. 23 competition was held in New Britain, Conn. and showcased a wide range of talent on the 3K course. The UMass cross country program’s underclassmen carried the team to a 12th place finish of 17 teams (302 points). Yale claimed first with 50 points followed by Monmouth and Boston College in second and third respectively.
Capps claimed 42nd and was first to the finish for the UMass women’s cross country program. The sophomore ran an impressive 10 minutes, 59.4-seconds in a field of 113 competitors. Freshman Allison Haryasz was next across the line running 11 minutes, 5.8-seconds, enough to claim 55th.
Fellow freshman Olivia Weir took 62nd with a respectable 11 minute, 12.8-second performance. Samantha Allen followed close behind in 67th at 11:20.3. Leila Aruri rounded out the top five UMass finishers in 89th. The sophomore ran 11:34.6.
The UMass women’s next competition takes them to Mechanicsville, Va. for the Atlantic 10 Championships. The event is slated for Oct. 31 with the gun set to go off 10:45 a.m. at Pole Green Park.
