WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. - With wins in four of five events, the Massachusetts men's swimming team claimed an early lead after the first session of competition at the Dartmouth Invitational at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center Friday night.
Freshman Owen Wright tore up the pool with two individual wins and was part of the 200 Free Relay that opened the meet with a win over Dartmouth by 3 tenths of a second. Wright came back a few events later to win the 200 Individual Medley, before proving to be the fastest man in the pool with a win in the 50 Free.
Junior Alessandro Bomprezzi showed off his strong distance power with a win in the 500 Free, out touching freshman teammate Oliver Wyeth by a little more than a second.
The meet is being scored in a dual format, meaning UMass has a 52.50-38.50 lead over Dartmouth and 67-24 lead over Connecticut College.
Saturday's action will get underway at 10 a.m. with the second session of the meet. The invitational will conclude with the third session at 2 p.m.
