Walsh Earns Co-UMass Athlete Of The Week Recognition

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey junior forward Shane Walsh has been selected as the Co-UMass Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. The honor comes one week following Walsh's first career Hockey East Player of the Week accolade.
Walsh, who shares the recognition with Heather MacLean of the women's track & field team, will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center. The luncheon will take place from Noon-1:15 p.m. and will feature hockey Head Coach John Micheletto and women's swimming Head Coach Bob Newcomb as guest speakers. Parking is available for free behind the Mullins Center. A buffet lunch will be served for $14/ person.
Walsh continued his string of recent heroics for the Minutemen as he scored twice in the third period of Friday's 6-4 win over New Hampshire, including the game winning goal. It marked Walsh's second career multi-goal game and third career multi-point game and he was named the No. 1 Star of the contest.
The West Roxbury, Mass., native has five goals and one assist over the past five games after previously scoring six goals through his first 79 career games. Nine (5g, 4a) of Walsh's career high 13 points this year have come in the third period.
