AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey junior forward Shane Walsh has been honored as the Hockey East Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It marks the first career weekly accolade for Walsh, who becomes the third Minuteman to earn a weekly recognition from Hockey East this season.

Walsh led a third period comeback for UMass last Friday night as the Minutemen rallied for a 3-2 win over Maine in a non-conference matchup with the Black Bears. He factored in all three tallies for the Minutemen as he logged a career-high three points with two goals and an assist, including the game winner and first career shorthanded goal. It was Walsh's first career multi-goal game and second career multi-point game.

With his three-point performance Walsh set new career highs for goals and tied his career high for points in a season. He now has 11 points on five goals and six assists in 21 games thus far.
