BOSTON - The UMass men's cross country team was back to the line in Boston on Friday afternoon for the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown 8K held in Franklin Park. The field featured 19 teams consisting of 182 runners and the Minutemen competed against nationally ranked teams such as Oregon, Syracuse, and Providence, but held their own to finish 13th out of 19 teams with a score of 384 points. Oregon took the top spot for first with a score of 24 points followed by runner-up Syracuse with 52 points. Providence took third with 79 points then Georgetown (103) and Dartmouth (142) rounded out the top-five.

Benjamin Thomas, a junior, maintained his lead from the previous week to take the spot as the UMass men's top finisher. He crossed the line 65th with a blazing-fast time of 25:35. Senior Patrick McGowan was the second Minuteman to finish in 25:57, good for 86th place. Blake Croteau (26:10, 98th overall), Paolo Tavares (26:11, 101st overall), and Cory Thomas (26:14104th overall) were third, fourth, and fifth for the team respectively.

UMass will have a week to recover before its next race on Oct. 4, in Bethlehem, Pa. The Minutemen will compete in the Paul Short Invitational held at Lehigh University with the gun scheduled to go off at 11:00 AM.
