Sept. 25, 2014 AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team is scheduled to compete in its second of four fall tournaments at the West Point Invitational the weekend of Sept. 26-28. The squad will face off against players from Connecticut, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Fordham, Lehigh Albany, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Drexel, Stony Brook, Quinnipiac, Long Island University, Marist, Fairleigh Dickinson, St Peters, Bryant, Binghamton, St Bonaventure and Manhattan on the outdoor Malek Courts.

UMass last appeared at the West Point Invite in 2012 where the Minutewomen put together a strong team showing in the three-game tournament. Overall, the team placed a pair of doubles teams in the Main Draw finals, had a runner-up in the Singles Flight B Consolation Draw, and posted a third-place finish in the Singles Flight A Main Draw. Chanel Glasper also clinched the Flight D singles title in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 10-7, and reached the Flight B doubles semifinals as well.

Last weekend the Minutewomen held their own at the Brown Invitational. Anna Woosley clinched a White Flight singles victory, while newcomers Ana Yrazusta Acosta and Carol Benito paired up in their first doubles match with UMass. The tandem rallied in the backdraw of the Bear Flight to capture the second, third and fourth round victories with scores of 8-3, 8-7 and 8-6, respectively.

UMass hopes to continue the momentum into this weekend with a much larger field of competition. The forecast for Friday in West Point, New York appears party cloudy in the high 70's, while Saturday and Sunday look to be sunny in the low 80's.
