Kindvall, Werenski Named UMass Co-Athletes Of The Week
November 05, 2014 | Men's Swimming & Diving
UMass Swimming & Diving standouts Meriza Werenski and Trent Kindvall have been named the UMass Dinn Brothers Co-Athletes of the Week.
Werenski remained perfect in eight races on the year, touching first in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 Breaststroke in a dual win at Binghamton over the weekend. The sophomore from South Hadley posted 400 IM and 200 breast times that were ahead of last week's initial swims of the year in those events, while her 400 IM time is the fastest in the A-10 this season by 6 seconds.
Kindvall has been a machine on the boards thus far and that continued last weekend in a dual win at Binghamton. The freshman won both boards and had a career meet, posting a career-performance on the 1-meter springboard with a 288.53 on Friday, before bouncing back a day later to shatter his previous best in the 3-meter with a 303.75, which placed him tenth all-time at UMass and easily the top score in the A-10 this season. He has four first places and two seconds in the three meets this season.
Both student-athletes will be presented their awards at the luncheon, which takes place Wednesday from Noon-1:15 p.m. at the Mullins Center. The program generally begins at 12:15. Parking is available for free behind the Mullins Center. A buffet lunch will be served for $14/person.
Guest speakers are Men's Head Basketball Coach Derek Kellogg, Women's Head Basketball Coach Sharon Dawley and Head Football Coach Mark Whipple.
