Cross Country Season Concludes At IC4A Championship

BRONX, N.Y. - The Minutemen finished out 2014 cross country season on Saturday, at the IC4A Championship (5 mile course) amid cold conditions running in Van Cortlandt Park. Patrick McGowan led the Minutemen to an eighth-place showing out of 16 squads with a second-place individual finish. Fordham took home the gold with 52 points, while Marist came in second with 68 points. Monmouth claimed third with 78 points, followed by Fairfield (104) and Siena (138) to round out the top-five team finishes.

In a spectacular individual showing, McGowan blazed across the finish line to claim silver in a field of 148 talented men, finishing with a time of 25:51.4 on the five mile course. Second for the team and 37th overall was Tyler Hagen. with a time of 27:02.7. Next was John Burns, 43rd overall with a time of 27:12.3. Close behind came Jay McMahon 54th overall at 27:25.3. Completing the top five for UMass was Morgan Marlow, 56th overall at 27:27.0.

Other team finishes included Mitch Negus (6/103) at 28:25.5, Timothy Dostie (7/109) at 28:41.3, and Paul Maurais (8/110) at 28:41.7.

This concludes the UMass men's cross country team's 2014 season. Many familiar faces return in winter at the start of the indoor track season. The returning Minutemen have plenty of time to rest now, first indoor track race begins Jan. 10, 2015 at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
