UMass Men's XC Competes At NCAA Regional Championship

BRONX, N.Y. - Ben Groleau led the UMass men's cross country team to a 16th out of 40 team finish on Friday at the NCAA Regional Championship in Van Cortlandt Park with 506 points. The Minutemen faced off against 39 teams from the Northeast Region. Syracuse took home the win with 45 points, while Providence came in second, close behind with 48 points and Iona grabbed third with a score of 60.
Groleau finished first for the Minutemen for his second time this season, taking 63rd place out of a field of 389 runners as hee completed the 10K race in 31:39.97. In second for the team was Patrick McGowan. He finished in 100th place with a time of 32:07.56. Benjamin Thomas took third, in 105th place and a time of 32:20.05. In fourth and fifth for UMass were Blake Croteau (32:24.57) and Richard Racz (32:34.68) in 114th and 124th, respectively.
The Minutemen have just one final meet to go before the 2014 cross country season wraps up. In one week, on Nov.22, 2014 they are back in the Bronx to race at the IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park. Start time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
