UMass Men Run Strong At Paul Short Invite

Results BETHLEHEM, Pa. - On Saturday, October 4 the UMass men's cross country team traveled down to Bethlehem, Pa. to face off against a field of 44 teams at the Paul Short Invitational. They faced fierce competition made only tougher by the rain, including Cornell, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, and Yale. After an 8k battle on Lehigh's Murray H. Goodman campus, the US Naval Academy took home the win with 95 points. The University of Guelph came in second with 123 points, followed by Adams State (130), and Yale in a close fourth (132). Iona College rounded out the top five places with 146 points. The Minutemen finished 27th of the 44 teams, taking home 725 points.

Benjamin Thomas had yet another lead finish for UMass, marking his third race in a row. He finished the 8K in 24 minutes, 53 seconds, in 61st out of 358 runners despite rainy conditions. Blake Croteau crossed the line a minute later at 25:32, good for 136th place. Richard Racz finished third for the Minutemen in 161st place in 25:41. Paolo Tavares in 181st (25:49) and Morgan Marlow (25:51) complete UMass' top five finishes.

The Minutemen will now gear up for the New England Championship, held on October 11 in Franklin Park. The gun will go off in Boston at 2:00 PM.
