AMHERST, Mass. - The Minutewomen look to close their 2014 fall season with continued successes at the Big Green Invitational on Friday Oct. 31, through Sunday Nov. 2 at the Alexis Boss Tennis Center in Hanover, New Hampshire. The three-day tournament includes players from Boston University, Minnesota and host, Dartmouth College.

Last season the Minutewomen picked up nine of 20 singles matches at the Big Green Invitational. Arielle Griffin contributed two wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots against Boston University and West Virginia, respectively, while now graduated Jessica Podlofsky led the squad with three singles wins. At the invitational, Podlofsky also tied Masha Pozar for second in career singles victories for the maroon and white with 66. Podlofsky eventually surpassed record-holder Michelle Spiess who had 67 victories from 2004-07 and is now currently ranked as the winningest UMass singles player with 74 career victories.

Current players of Chanel Glasper and Aarzoo Malik also contributed to UMass' success at the Big Green Invite last season. Glasper and Malik took home the doubles point after downing Boston University in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

The Minutewomen enter this weekend's tournament after an 11-day hiatus. UMass last competed at the ITA Northeast Regionals on Oct. 17-19 in New Haven, Connecticut where Anna Woosley advanced to the Round of 32. The sophomore finished the regionals with a 4-1 singles record after falling 6-2, 6-1 to Tina Jiang of Columbia. Woosley is undefeated this season, 5-0, in singles play and 5-1 in doubles action. When paired alongside Glasper, the duo is undefeated 3-0.

UMass has relied heavily on strong play out of its newcomers this season. Both Ana Yrazusta Acosta and Carol Benito are 6-2 in singles and doubles play, while freshman Isabel Balsavage is 2-3 in singles, and 3-2 in doubles action.

The Big Green Invite is the final of four tournaments for UMass in the 2014 fall season. The invitational will prove to be a good predictor for the Minutewomen down the road, as the squad will faceoff at Dartmouth for a second time in the 2015 spring season on February 26. The Minutewomen will return to action on Jan. 30, 2015 to compete in the team's first dual match of the spring season against Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
