Minutemen Place 15th At New England Championships

Oct. 11, 2014 BOSTON - The UMass men's cross country team saw all five of its scorers place in the top 100 of a field of 262 as the team placed 15th at the New England Championships at Franklin Park on Saturday afternoon. The Minutemen posted a team score of 364 points, while Providence won the meet with 72 points and a total time of 2:04:25, narrowly edging out Brown for the title (72 points, 2:04:26).

For the fourth time in as many meets this season, junior Benjamin Thomas was UMass' top finisher, placing 46th with a time of 25:18.1. Redshirt senior Patrick McGowan followed in 59th, completing the 8K in 25:24.6.

Sophomore Morgan Marlow posted his highest team finish of the season, scoring for a second straight week as the No. 3 runner for the Minutemen (77th overall, 25:35.2) after taking fifth for the squad at the Paul Short Invitational.

Junior Ben Groleau and senior Richard Racz rounded out UMass' top five placing 85th and 97th with times of 24:40.1 and 25:44.9, respectively.

The Minutemen will remain idle until Nov. 1 when the squad will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Atlantic 10 Championships at 10:50 a.m. in Schenley Park.
