Things are rocking here in Amherst. The kids are training well, studying hard, and working to keep up our UMass Swimming and Diving tradition! Following are a few of the highlights from the last few weeks:

Men's Swimmers to be Featured on `The Lead' campaign for UMass

A full film production crew was in Rogers Pool last week filming our swimmers as part of the upcoming advertising campaign for UMass. It involved a day of filming at the UMass Amherst campus for an upcoming TV spot called "The Lead." The ad will feature UMass athletes taking the lead over competitors, and is likely to begin airing either late this fall or next spring. In addition the production team spent almost 30 minutes doing a one on one feature interview with Alessandro Bomprezzi (Jr - Rome, Italy) which we hope to see included in promotional video for the school.

Swimmers Earn Dinner from the Coach

On Monday Sept. 22 Coach Yarworth challenged the team to improve their individual test set averages and bring the team average under 1:00. The test set is 10 x 100 on 1:15 for best average. On Sept 6 the team had posted a very fast 1:00.96. Coach Yarworth told the squad they would get a team dinner at the Amherst Brewing Company if they all improved and brought that average down under the 60 second barrier. Well, improve they did, led by Ollie Wyeth (:54.58) and Alessandro (:54.63) the team average dropped to an astounding :58.93! Biggest improvements were by Brian Stiles (Jr - Denville, NJ) at -5.51 seconds and freshman Owen Wright (Attleboro, MA) at -3.78! Great stuff for early season intensity!
The tough shirt for the week went to Kyle Vieira (Jr - Wrentham, MA) for his all-around hard work as he is recovering from off season surgery on his deviated septum and adenoids. He moved his average from 58.59 to 56.17 which was good for third on the squad.

Swim and Dive at Homecoming, Sold Out Stadium!

Our team represented the Athletic Department at the Annual Homecoming Parade as they rode the float proudly wearing UMass Swimming and Diving apparel. Homecoming was great as the football game sold out, the tailgating area was packed, and the weather was beautiful. Our team lost another close one but seems to be making strides as they continue the process of playing in the Bowl Subdivision.
