OLEAN, N.Y. - No. 21/19 Massachusetts was unable to complete another road comeback and fell to St. Bonaventure, 78-65, at the Reilly Center on Wednesday.

UMass (17-3, 4-2) found itself trailing to Bona for the second time in as many meetings and appeared ready to get over the hump, cutting the deficit to one with just over seven minutes to play on a Trey Davis three-pointer.

But SBU (13-8, 3-4) banked in a triple with the shot clock winding down and answered with a 11-2 run that UMass was unable to overcome.

Davis led the Minutemen with a career-high 18 on 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Cady Lalanne and Chaz Williams each had 11, with Sampson Carter and Raphiael Putney adding 10 apiece.

Carter and Lalanne led the team with seven rebounds each. Carter went over 500 boards for his career.

UMass shot 42 percent but was just 8-for-15 from the free throw line.

Conversely, SBU did a lot of its damage from the line, making 30-of-34. Charlon Kloof led five players in double figures with 14.

SBU held a 45-35 edge on the glass and scored 20 points off 17 UMass turnovers as it improved to 9-1 at home.

UMass led 7-5 before St. Bona went on an 8-0 run to claim a 13-7 advantage. After trading buckets, it was the Minutemen's turn to put together a scoring run, using a pair of transition 3-pointers from Raphiael Putney and Davis, along with two Williams free throws for a 15-13 lead.

Neither team was able to get a rhythm and seize any type of momentum, in the final four minutes, as both clubs shot 1-for-6 from the floor and the Bonnies took a 26-25 edge into the locker room.

SBU used a 11-2 run early in the second to get out to an eight-point lead with 16:37 to play.

Davis eventually cut the Bonnies' lead to 55-54 with a three from the right wing with 7:01 remaining, capping a 16-8 run.

UMass will travel to Saint Joseph's on Saturday in a game that will be televised nationally by the CBS Sports Network.. Tip off at Hagan Arena is set for 6:00 p.m.
