AMHERST, Mass. - UMass baseball junior Rob McLam has been named the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team as a designated hitter, the A-10 office announced on Tuesday. McLam earns his first career accolade as the Minutemen have landed at least one representative on the all-conference squad in each of the past five seasons.
McLam was one of two players to start all 45 games for UMass in 2013 and led the team in batting average (.311), hits (55), doubles (11), on base percentage (.391) and total bases (68). He ranked second for the Minutemen in RBI with 27 and runs scored with 29, both career highs for the Terryville, Conn., native. McLam drew 16 walks, as well, and was 11-for-14 in stolen base attempts.
In Atlantic 10 play, McLam finished seventh in the conference and first for UMass with a .361 batting average and was fifth in the league in runs scored (18), RBI (19) and hits (35).
