Men's Swimming and Diving Holds Annual Banquet

AMHERST, Mass. - The Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams held their Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday April 6 in the Massachusetts Room at the Mullins Center.

The Men's Team was honored for their season accomplishments including a 2nd place finish at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championships. Coach Yarworth also noted the team's very involved Community Service Projects as they worked various functions and events for the Amherst Survival Center, Family Outreach of Amherst, St. Brigid's Parish, The Amherst Historical Society, and taught a 20 session Age Group Swimming Clinic.

Academic achievements were recognized also as senior Alex Merkulov, juniors Troy Nichols and Chris Inglis, and sophomore Mike Glenn were all named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All Academic Team. No other school in the conference had more than two placed on the squad. In addition Chris Inglis received the UMass Winter Scholar Athlete Award which goes to the individual from all sports at UMass who has the strongest academic and athletic performance for the season.

The Minutemen also handed out individual performance awards along with honoring this seasons seniors.

The final piece of business Saturday afternoon was to name Inglis and Nichols captains for the 2013-14 season.
