Tennis Prevails With Tough, 5-2, Victory Over BU

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team took down the Boston University Terriers by a score of 5-2 Thursday afternoon in Amherst. The win marks the squad's third in a row and pushes UMass to an overall record of 11-7 (5-1, A-10) while the Terriers leave Amherst with an overall record of 6-10. The Minutewomen had not defeated BU since 2005 when that year's team posted a 4-3 victory at home on April 9.
UMass was able to capture the doubles point as the top two pairings of Yuliana Motyl/Chantal Swiszcz and Sonia Bokhari/Chanel Glasper recorded victories. The doubles portion took almost two hours as Bokhari and Glasper were able to clinch the point 9-8 (0) with all eyes on their court.
Bokhari and Jessica Podlofsky then made quick work of their opponents during the singles portion of the day with wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots respectively. Freshman Hazuki Onaga then followed suit with a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to clinch the match for UMass.
Chanel Glasper rounded out the day with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win from the sixth singles slot, good for her 22nd overall singles win of the season.
The Minutewomen will hit the courts against Bryant University on Thursday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. once again at the Mullins Center Courts in Amherst.
