Tennis Cruises Past Bryant On Senior Day, 7-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team defeated the Bryant Bulldogs by a score of 7-0 Tuesday afternoon in Amherst. The Minutewomen now improve to 12-7 overall with the victory (5-1 A-10) and have won their last four matches and five out of their last six. On a day where the squad honored senior-captain Gabby Jannotta, UMass was able to turn in a superb effort from the entire team. The Minutewomen will now make a quick turnaround for a Thursday match in Albany at 1:00 p.m.
With the anticipation of unfavorable weather conditions, the match started with singles and followed with the doubles portion. During the singles portion, UMass swept all six matches starting with Yuliana Motyl at the top from No. 1 singles.
Sophomore Sonia Bokhari won her sixth straight match by defeating Marcela Brandao, 6-2, 6-1. From No. 3 singles, Julia Comas got back to her winning ways to record her 13th dual match victory.
Jessica Podlofsky recorded her fifth straight singles victory and 22nd overall with her win from the fourth singles slot. Hazuki Onaga improved her dual match record to 6-2 with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Stephanie Smyers. Onaga now owns the highest dual match winning percentage on the team with 75%.
Freshman Chanel Glasper rounded out the singles performances with a three-set victory over Rosie Bird from No. 6 singles.
UMass ended the day by taking all three doubles matches.
