AMHERST, Mass. - After scoring 13-points and helping the No. 15 UMass women's lacrosse team to a pair of league wins, Katie Ferris was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Ferris recorded nine goals and four assists to pick up her fourth Player of the Week honor this season.
Against Richmond, she scored five goals and had two assists along with one draw control. She posted four goals in the win at George Washington, along with two assists, two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Ferris leads the Minutewomen (11-1, 2-0 A-10) with 41 goals and 28 assists this season. Her 69 points are just five shy of the single-season record at UMass which was set by Whitney Thayer in 1981. Ferris had 72 points, the 3rd-best total in program history, last year as a freshman. Ferris also needs 16 goals to break the single-season record of 56 which she set last year, while her 28 assists are just six shy of the 32-year-old record set by Cari Nickerson.
For her career, she now has 97 career goals which is 11th-best all-time at UMass. Her 141 points are the 8th most all-time, while her 44 assists also rank 8th all-time.
Ferris is the first player in program history to earn A-10 Performer of the Week honors four-or-more times in one season.
UMass will return to action this Saturday against Saint Joseph's at McGuirk Stadium. The opening draw is set for 3:30 PM and admission is free to all.
