Ferris Named UMass Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's lacrosse sophomore Katie Ferris has been named the UMass Athlete of the Week after tallying career-highs in goals (7) and points (10) in the season-opening win against Holy Cross. Ferris will be honored at Wednesday's UMass Sports Luncheon which will be held in Room 1009 of the Campus Center starting at Noon.

Last season, Ferris, a native of Carthage, N.Y., was Named to the SynapseSports.com Rookie All-American Team and the IWLCA All-Region Second Team. She also was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and A-10 All-Conference First Team. As a freshman she set the UMass single season record for goals (56) and posted the third most points for a single-season (72). In the season-opener Ferris led the Minutewomen over Holy Cross, 18-8. The Minutewomen (1-0) collected scores from eight different players, while outshooting the Crusaders 40-22 at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

The Minutewomen will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 22 at McGuirk Stadium as they host Commonwealth rival Boston University. The opening draw is set for 3 PM.
